Absolutely no reason to be scared of Craig's List :-) It's not going to bite you and you can arrange to have any materials dropped off at the college if you are worried about someone finding out where you live.

(my personal opinion is that the Garden forum is useless and is used only by those who are not familiar enough with the site to ask in a more appropriate forum or those who don't know anything about gardening.)

You may want to post pictures of the gardening space. Is the area ready to plant and you just need seeds and plants? Are you going to grow in the ground? beds? containers? Do you need to prep the space?

Maya -- Do you have Nextdoor in your community? If so, set up an account and make your plea. I'll bet you'll receive many offers of free seeds, starts, etc. Try to score some compost, hoses, and tools too. As others mentioned, try Craig's List too. Just be sensible about it. Good luck with your project.

and the garden is in beds. I do not have a picture at the moment but I have 2 4X6X1 beds

Your current beds will not take much more than you already listed. A couple of packs of seed would fill them up. Are you going to be making more space? Do you already have enough soil to fill those foot high beds?
