The floor lamp won't do it, I'm afraid. If you own this place, I would check out Tech Lighting's Kable system lights. More up-to-date looking than track lights and will give you the ambient lighting you need.

Sabrina - Yes, that was the plan initially. Unfortunately, no one in Chicago is offering home consultations and installation, so we were hoping to buy something in the interim to help.

I have this one (not sure if it's the same brand), chosen to add light in one end of large open area. I picked this because the arms move, the lights can be 1, 2 or all 3 on, and each one takes a high wattage bulb. I keep the arms on mine "lined up," not angled out like these. It's inexpensive and maybe will hold you until you can get a designer inside.

Sabrina - One last question: The electrician can simply install using the existing junction box, correct? He wouldn't have to drill into the concrete ceiling, right? Thanks for your help.
