We are going to make an offer on a house that currently has no interior basement entrance. When they were building the house 20 years ago, they didn’t realize how close the staircase was to the front door, so they did away with the basement entrance and moved the stairs back a bit. There is an entrance to the basement from the garage, as well as an entrance from outside. Since we have four little kids, we need an interior basement entrance. We should have plenty of room to put one in because behind the staircase is a giant walk-in pantry. I know that I will lose some space in the pantry, but I’m OK with that. The current owner was not willing to lose any pantry space.

How much will it cost to add an interior basement entrance to a house? It will be located somewhere around/behind the main staircase (when you enter the house). This is similar, but not exactly the same) as the location of the basement entrance in the original plan. Thanks for your help!
