Do you need floor mat for all exercise equipment regardless of the flooring you have in your home or only for certain types of flooring?

I am on the east coast in a brownstone. I would love a gym in the cellar but there is a lot of dust and the ceiling is a bit low for an elliptical machine. Does it pay to dig down a bit to increase the ceiling height? How do you reduce dust from the stone wall foundation? Thanks

The only space we have to put Gym equipment is in our unused formal dining room which is right off our front door. This space doesn’t have any doors but has a huge open entryway. We also have an enclosed office with French doors to other side of the front door. Concern with moving our office into the formal space is there would be no privacy for office calls. If gym is to be in the formal dining space, how can we make it not an eyesore. Can open gym spaces be aesthetically pleasing?

I have a question around flooring. We are converting our attic to a home gym. The space currently has old carpeting, that we intend to remove. What would be the best material for the new flooring?

I see mostly converting questions and flooring. I think I may top the weird converting. We’re filling in our indoor pool and making it and exercise room with half bath. I was thinking of putting a shorter ballet bar and some mirrors with a treadmill and some weights. What’s the best flooring and anything else I need to know about a safe exercise room. Safe for my knees and for when grandkids are over.

Another question on flooring. We're remodeling an unfinished room to use as a fitness and project room. But we'd like to make it usable for a bedroom later. Please recommend a protective mat to put on top of laminate flooring and under equipment such as an elliptical and weights. Or suggest another type of flooring better than laminate for this purpose.

We are building and putting in an exercise room in the basement. I've seen exercise rooms with the rubber tiles or flooring. I'm thinking about this type of flooring however how easy is it to clean? I don't want sweat stains all around the treadmill or spin bike.

You ask a lot of questions.

We are taking what was a gun safe then wine cellar then storage room and turning it into a downstairs home gym. It is small and windowless and in the part of the house that is built into the mountainside (cold). Flooring, lighting, and ventilation are all challenges.

What is the best selection of gym equipment for a small, medium, and large size room? For a workout that might include aerobic, weight training, and stretching what equipment and accessories profile the best value? How do you arrange equipment in an efficient way? What features need to be planned in order to support a workout (mirrors, ventilation, music, etc)?

I prefer to exercise in a cool room, what are some ways to efficiently lower the room temp in a home gym which may only get used an hour or two a day?

What’s the minimum size you can have for a home gym if you want space for a recumbent bike, a treadmill, an exercise mat and maybe some weights (doesn’t have to be a whole weight station)?

@Emily Hurley @Bryan Anthony @Becky Harris Any updates on your Houzz TV Live series? If this has not happened yet, then please consider posting it. People might be interested in gyms, as part of new year's resolutions ;)

For my part, I would like the gym to have a view of the garden as shown on your OP. I was considering a combo of (1) an ADU/shed or converted shipping container and (2) placing it under the deck. Any photos of similar solutions would be welcome.

join a gym! 90% of people who buy equipment for working out at home sell it after a year or so .. check out craigslist and you will see. the money you lose on the equipment would have paid for a few years of a gym membership. nothing beats a gym membership. other people and motivation!!!!!
