Is that wallpaper or a faux-finished paint? I would try to pick a creamy white to have a clean slate.

Getting rid of that dated faux finish wall paint will go a long way. The counters are also contributing to the amber tones of the space so replacing those will also help. What is your budget?

I was trying to keep the countertop, to keep the cost down. I will be spending on switching to a gas cooktop from the electric.

Budget $5,000 with gas cooktop.

I agree with the creamy white paint, stainless steel knobs, and a more contemporary/modern/classic lined lighting, maybe wicker or French Bistro seating? Just what comes to mind!

Would it look ok to just change the island countertop? Since I may run into problems when I swap out the cooktop.

Would you consider making the island one level if you are changing anyway? where is your vent for stove?

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will get a price on changing the granite on the island and changing the bar side to bar height. I don’t like that you are lower and looking into wood.

I can’t decide what to do about the cabinets now. I love the changes I have made, but the cabinets still are a problem. Thoughts?

I think you need that black/charcoal color on the cabinet side of your kitchen. Have you thought about painting the pantry door the same color as the island (including the trim)? And maybe even the window trim? And/or change the hardware to ORB?

Yes, the pantry door and trim are painted the same color as the island. Thanks for the response. I thought if I painted the cabinets the same color it might be to much. I was thinking about staining them a different color.
