I would not do a fake wall over the plumbing because you will at some point need to access it! Maybe build out a shelf/counter and then hide it with decor or baskets? Also some open shelves between the two cabinets would look really cute and add extra storage as well.

Definitely buy pedestals. Not only will it hide the ugliness, you will find you can use the w/d at a much more friendly level. Finally, you will have extra storage.

The best solution would be to measure how much higher the washer and dryer need to be to cover the “offending” connections. Then, build your own drawer or laundry basket shelf unit to the correct specifications. Most drawers come in standard heights. And that might not be enough “lift” for you to cover these connections. But, in the end, you will have something that works for you. Option two would be to remove the cabinet above the washer and stack the dryer on top of the washer. It would cover the water connections and the power cord, but the dryer cord and plug would still be visible. That could be moved or a folding counter and hanging space could be built to the right of your washer/dryer to mask it. Good luck! (With a newborn...you will be spending a lot of time in that room!)

Well, now it seems to be working right.

It looks like you have enough room between the washer and dryer for a drawer unit. DH built custom drawers in our previous house, but we needed something quick in this house so I used Elfa. I use one of the drawers for all the Tide, Downey, Borateem, Clorox, etc. -everything I need to wash clothes. One drawer holds all my cleaning supplies-floor cleaner, toilet bowl bottles, Clorox Cleanup, etc. one drawer holds rags. Container Store sells these units in several sizes and you can buy a top for the unit. Measure your space because they have several widths and drawer depths. You can put this together yourself. I also loved some of the pictures posted above, so once you quickly solve your storage problem, you can take your time planning the total makeover.

I would recommend a utility sink/counter space with a cover for the sink so you have a folding space. You have plenty of room to end up with a functional and organized space. Highly recommend pedestals as well!

You should always have access to the water cutoffs.
