I knew he was Coon the minute I saw him. Handsome fella.

I'm still looking for a new Maine Coon kitten after losing my Bijou last month. You need some special tools to groom a Coon: a Belgian steel comb, a slicker brush to gently work out mats before they get big, a pin brush for the tail and lots of patience. You may not get all the grooming done that you want to in one session. You have to calm the kitty and let them know how great they are while you are grooming them, and give them some treats afterward for being good. I used to sing to Bijou and other cats while grooming them, the same way you'd sing to a baby while doing something they are not that fond of doing. It worked, and she was beautifully groomed and nail-clipped. Twice a year, I would take her for a professional grooming. It was just necessary, having such a very full coat.

He catches everything and brings all his half eaten presents to the door step so I can have a treat too. I threw one of his gifts into the woods many years ago and he brought it back to the door step so now I bag them in a Walmart bag and take them off with the trash that way he knows I appreciate his gifts. I always tell him what a good boy he is. He is a good hunter, this week it was a short tailed mole looking thing, a rat and 2 bunnies. He doesn't eat snakes, lizards, moles or voles. They must not taste good.

My cats love sleeping in the garden under the leaves of the big hostas!
