What is the box like thing under the stairs ? Imo that is the thing I would want to hide . Those beams look scary to me but maybe some pics from further back would make them make sense.

We dont know what that is under the stairs.... the seller does not know either and am afraid to uncover it....

I like the contrast. Once you add your furniture you can decide then, but I think if you add large art on the back wall, that area could become an attractive feature wall.

The box is weird. I think Ali would at least plaster over it and paint it the wall color. As to the stair, I can see the iron painted to match the iron doors and the stairs refinished lighter. It would be more of a Scandinavian look versus warehouse conversion.

The rods pointing beyond the vertical point at the lowest step look threatening? Maybe you can find a wooden upright finished like the floor(unfinished)and left cubed or maybe carved a bit to place at the floor level of the end of the railing to take the 'points' off the diagonal lines? I thought wood, but than, maybe you can find something like this off an old 4 poster bed frame, or I have even seen some chrome or black metal versions. I would think you could just route a vertical line on the inside of the wood and afix it over the 'points' of the railing that just look rather like weaponry? Maybe that is all you would need to make you feel more comfortable with it...it could be black, it could match the flooring hue, it could be a dark wood or a painted brighter color....it could have an owl carved atop it..or even a planter box, electrical lantern of some kind in frosted glass atop it.....LOL....whatever works well with the rest of your interior items and furnishings..

When you match the wood on them to the floor, get enough wood to close up the backs with risers. Then close up the part underneath with drywall and some kind of door access and use the unknown tiled box area for storage. Paint all of it to match whatever you decide for the railing. You may find someone who can cut and smooth off the ends that stick out and look dangerous.

Totally agree with decoenthusiaste above, and Red Silver too. Google "newel post" and you'll find plenty of options. You may want to consider balancing the new newel post with a half-one at the top.

Covered the odd part at the bottom as I couldn’t remove, with new parquet now better. Eventually will replace that art with something of more contrast as adviced, really liked that!

Also changed the stairs’ wood to match parquet and that was probably the biggest difference

Well done! Looks great. As for the painting, while it might not be the best for that space, it's a very nice and interesting painting. Hope if finds a place in your home somewhere.
