What area of the country are you in as many brands are regional. I would find a local window and door store. Stay away from any of the box stores and or Pella stores for starters.

What are your current windows made of? Glazing? Functional and operational issue consist of?

I live outside of Sacramento, CA, where it is quite hot in the summer months, colder in the winter with some rainy weather from Oct thru March for sure. While the windows do open, the internal components of the windows are failing by not allowing the windows to stay open on their own nor close easily, either. They were decent enough (dual pane, for example) 30 years ago, but I am now confounded by all the options-wood frame versus vinyl/dual pane with gas in between the panes, low-e glass and so on. Additionally, the cost associated with all of these decisions seems insane to me...so, I appreciate all the educated information folks are willing to share.
