Why are you planning to paint basement grey? What is basement going to be used for?

No on the gray. It sucks the life out of the room and makes it feel cold. You need something with a warm undertone. Behr Honey Infusion would brighten it up.

I will share a few things with you about painting over yellow/gold. It sucks. You are not reading any of the colors correctly because of the tan. Put your samples on poster board or at a minimum tape white printer paper up to the left and between your colors so you can truly see the best color.

I brought in a color consultant from Sherwin Wiliiams. IIRC, it was like $99 but I got $50 in paint cards and two free samples. She helped me choose Skyine Steel and Elephant Ear to go with our cream trim. We bought, started painting and we freaked. Nothing looked right in a room full of tan - it was purplish. So we bought more grays, mixed grays and tried to find the perfect one. Once we got all 50 shades of grey on the wall the perfect color was the two we had picked. And they lived happily ever after.

We are getting a grey/ multi carpet. And I want neutral color but whole upstairs is done in nomadic desert and more of brown tones.

I don’t want white (except for molding, doors. And don’t want a color.

do you have a large board you can paint to put up on the wall instead of painting over that mustard color? When I look at it, my eye is taking in that previous color and changing the tone of the greys.

Unfortunately I do not. Limited supplies do to quarantine.

I think the lighter the better so prefer Repose. I painted my basement a light grey as I figured it will never be bright, so might as well go with a color I like and be complimentary to my accessories and furniture.

Yes I want grey simply because I really like it. May I ask what color you went with Maureen?

Can’t remember, but in looking for a similar color that I used, I came across the color below which is similar to mine and is one of your choices, but may be too dark for you.

Just an FYI; I have dark brown wood floors, white brick fireplace, dark brown velvet seating, light artwork and jute rugs - it doesn’t feel cave like or cold looking when you include both light and warm dark accents.

kelly, do you have any white paint or white primer? try coating your sample area w/it to get a better reading.

make sure you light bulbs aren't to warm (under 3200K will give off quite a bit of yellow light)

try getting some little Behr sample pots color matched to BM colors. They won't match perfectly, but you'll get an idea if they work. (the BM Sample cans are about $9 each. If you only have to get one or two, go that route)

When you cut paint recipes in half, you aren't getting a lighter version, you're getting a different color.

Try Light Pewter. (top left) I used it in my kitchen. It's a warm, lighter gray that's pretty natural. It's not silvery blue, but it's not taupe/tan either. It's really a nice neutral gray:

We painted ours BM Revere Pewter, it’s more of a greige.

Since the one wall appears to be concrete, why not prison gray -- never mind -- just being snarky; I'm in a mood; overlook me, please.

Seriously, there are some muted blueish grays and grayish blues that could look good without being a color that overwhelms. Please do at least consider them.

Since this is not a formal room, consider adding some affordable lighting. There were five brass floor lamps available at the Good Will today. Now there are four. Consider trying different bulbs to get the effect you want.

Late to the party, but a friend did Repose Grey and it was so lovely; it was actually all panelled.
