Do a medium gray..beautiful with your siding!

I would do the deck grey and all the trim (handrails, skirt board) white to match your house.

We removed the chipping paint off of a deck built in the 80s (using a power sprayer) and stained it with good results.

This is Deck Over after 5 years. But it started peeling within the season. And yes we prepped per instructions. Now we can’t paint or stain without removing all of the Deckover, which will be nearly impossible. Later, a painter told me never to use anything solid on an exposed deck.

Thanks. Power washing is this weekend’s project. I think we tried a few years ago but at that time it was mostly stuck on. I’m less hopeful about power washing the railings. Just wanted to save other people’s decks!

When we bought our house they had painted the deck grey and didn't maintain it. It was chipping and peeling very badly. We stripped the paint and then just applied a transparent stain to the cedar. It was so much work stripping the entire deck but I love how low maintenance the stain is. We just do a new coat every year or so (it's a covered deck so not really exposed to the elements). However you can still see some remnants of the grey where we couldn't get between the boards to sand but I think that is a simple price to pay to not have to deal with the higher maintenance of paint.
