If your replacing the siding in the near future I would wait.

Good question. The cedar is in very good shape. Any damaged pieces we have are being replaced. Our siding could last longer..... in that case should I replace the soffit now? I am so confused! Painting costs about 8K, and the soffits are between 9-14 depending upon what we choose. Not sure what to do, and do not want to waste the money if we do need new siding down the road. As you note, perhaps the siding could last a long time!

On another note, do you recommend cedar soffit? We live in Calgary so you know about our harsh winters.... LOVE your work by the way!

Thanks neighbor! Although wood soffit is nice I probably would invest in aluminum and spend the savings elsewhere. I would also keep the cedar siding as long as possible and go ahead with soffit, facsia and eves if need be. They should have been replaced the last time the home had the shingles replaced

yes probably optimal. has your contractor inspected the attic for proper ventilation, rot, mould etc?

No contracter as our scope right now is just exterior paint, and soffit, eaves, fascia.

Your cedar siding appears stained right now. I would restain it, rather than paint it.

What did you end up doing? I also live in Calgary and my house colour is almost the exact same as yours. We are replacing windows and need to choose the trim colour but I also want to plan a colour palette to work towards for the exterior. I really don’t like my orange bricks either lol.
