What a beautiful flower. Beautiful color (love the slightly darker edge), beautiful shape, and, as a added bonus, beautiful fragrance! Is this one from seed, or is it a graft?

Maria Elena, I've tried to root cuttings of grafted Adeniums in the past, without success. How do you air layer Adeniums? Right now all my Adeniums are seedlings. I love the flowers on grafted plants, but I really don't like the graft. I far prefer seed or cutting grown plants.

cactusmcharris, interior BC Z4/5: Adeniums and Plumerias are cousins. I have heard of grafting Plumeria onto Adenium stock with success but not the other way around. Perhaps someone here has tried and can share that with us.

bragu_DSM 5: Your Fragrant Cloud will not necessarily look like mine ... Each seed carries ALL the DNA of its heritage and the blooms can present in any combination of that DNA. Yes, this is KO seed grown, as are most of my Adenium. I mainly buy from him and have had excellent results.

The only one I've purchased 3 times and was VERY disappointed with were the MINIS ... Only 1 germinated and grew to an adult plant. It's a beauty and I'm grateful to have it but wish I'd had better results. Two batches NEVER germinated and I believe those seeds were not viable at all. The third batch only 1/2 germinated, then proceeded to die off in the seedling stage. This is the only one that survived.

stupidlazydog CT zone 5b/6a: Right? I'm with you ... I don't like grafts either. What is it about the grafted plant that we find so unappealing? I find them unnatural and call them "Frankenplants". Nevertheless, I will eventually graft something just to try it out; very likely will take it all the way to a real "Frankenplant" with grafts from several Adenium with different blooms. That will be a spectacle!

If you conduct a search on this amazing database that is Gardenweb, you will find an Adenium forum post (or a couple) showing a step by step for air-layering. I believe there is a 2016 post by @Stuart( Paramaribo, Suriname) Hofwijks called "Has anyone tried this yet" that shows the process. It is hands down the best way to ensure roots. I also have experienced lots of lost cuttings by direct rooting and find the method hit or miss, mostly miss ... Definitely NOT the way to go to clone prized blooms.

bikerdoc5968 Z6 SE MI: Correct. I have been purchasing KO seeds for the past 4 years and stand by them and the integrity of the company. If I had the opportunity I'd sell them for Chi-Lung Ko in the US and territories. There is a shortage here and people are always asking me where to purchase seeds ... I always direct them to his website.

All my seed has been from Orient Adenium. I've been happy with them, but only one has flowered so far. This little guy had one flower last summer...

There are times I wish I lived where it was hot and sunny, so I could grow these better. I am tempted to get some seed from KO, but how will I have room for all the plants?

stupidlazydog CT zone 5b/6a, That is a beautiful bloom ... Congratulations. I am definitely blessed to live in the Caribbean with year-round warm weather. Being from NYC, I never dreamed I'd be cultivating such beautiful plants. The experience of nursing back to health and air-layering my mom's Adenium certainly got me hooked. I've averaged planting 100 seeds a year and have had the privilege of gifting many to neighbors, friends, and family. With the exception of other varieties (not obesum) anything that blooms single pink, white, red or single stripe becomes a gift for those around me. This year I focused on peaches and purples and hope to be able to share some spectacular blooms next year.

I have a total of 40 Rinoa and KO babies right now ...

I so wish I could grow these outside, or at least have a longer warm, sunny growing season for them.
