Here’s my Opinion——first of all, your plant appears to be sporting which are the leaves that have a split color....that’s just a variation in the leaf. In the second pic it looks like your leaf has some sun burn or maybe a bit of frost damage that so many of us got affected with. I am not an expert, others will chime in I am sure.

the rugose leaf may make it appear such.. but i dont see any ink bleed between veins ...

agree the whole crown on the left is doing something out of the ordinary.. sporting or reverting ... i would probably divide it off and see what happens ... else you might lose the mother plant ...

Thanks, djacob and ken adrian. I noticed that the left crown is doing something crazy. Should I lift the entire plant up and then divide? I've never divided a hosta before.

It appears to be sporting to me (left side) and it's the whole crown, not just a leaf. Whether it will come back that way next year is always a good question - the other question being, will it take over the whole plant? And - that leads to question three - whether to divide that part off or wait until next year to see what happens.

get tape... tape up division that is weird ...

get shovel ... pull back mulch if any ... dig around the eye you want to remove ... straight down.. pull back ... grab the chosen one .. and see if it wont just come out ..

if not.. dig whole plant up ... remove the chosen one ... replant momma ...

plant the chosen one a foot or two away ... water to settle soil ...

bingo bango.. all done .. nbd ...
