The match looks pretty good, with such a variation in the pattern. Has the seam been filled? Can you post a pic from farther back, so we can see how it relates to the rest of the kitchen?

The seam has been filled. The first time they used a lighter seam color. This is after they came back for a second time on my contractors request to re-level and address the seam. This is the only other picture I’ve taken.

The seam is awful. While the pattern doesn’t match it usually doesn’t in a corner and it doesn’t look bad from that perspective.

There are two issues with counter seams: the pattern flow, and the seam itself. On the first issue, I think the flow to the pattern is pretty good; any disruption to the flow cannot be helped unless you have purchased an additional slab that can be bookmatched. I think the OP's photo shows as good pattern flow as can be without an additional slab. But on the seam itself, that is a re-do. Joseph Corlett as the Pro expert (thank goodness he is a regular on this forum) provided the perfect summary of the seam problems. What I do not know is whether that seam can really be repaired, due to the chiseling.

You can feel the seam, fingernail does catch on that thick, darker portion. The seam closer to the back is smooth.

Thank you everyone for your input! The fabricator said “the seam is within industry standards” so I felt maybe I was being overly critical.

Fabricator is wrong. I dare him to produce "industry standards" that support his position.

Sorry for the issues you’re experiencing. What is that granite called?

That is simply a bad seam....not filled and flush.

The granite is Leathered Black Forest. It’s really beautiful minus the sloppy seam!

Get your contractor involved again. Talk the talk that Joseph gave you.

I think I could get use to where the two pieces come together. But the seam... absolutely no way.

I think the ‘flow’ from slab to slab is fine but the seam should feel smooth to the touch.

Just to update:

The fabricators said they would be unable to fix the seam, and there was nothing else they could do other than try to blend the countertops with a wax coating to make the seam color less noticeable. So, they will be removing the countertops and we will be moving forward with a completely different company. Such a bummer but glad we had that option. Thanks again to everyone for the input!

They were going to WAX the countertops?!?! That’s a new one. For any lurkers wax is great for cars and antique furniture but not for counters. Dish soap will dissolve it and water tends to turn it white.

Those fabricators are on their way to bankruptcy. You can't afford to refund a customer's money after you've done the job. Giving a refund over the quality of a seam? Embarrassing doesn't even begin to describe it.

UPDATE: We went with a completely different fabricator and were very pleased with the end results.
