Lindsey - I cannot keep track of where geographically/climate zone wise everyone is - if you include that info in your user name it would appear every time you post. Anyway, do you garden in a climate where old European once bloomers might not get enough winter chill to grow well? I do. Also, how old is your plant of Cabbage Rose (which I assume is some sort of a Centifolia)? Sometimes my roses just need more time to mature to start blooming well.

I've added 7VA to my user name and hope it will be displayed henceforth. European roses do well here--in fact, better than my other roses with a couple of exceptions. The Cabbage rose is supposed to be the original R. centifolia and I have no reason to doubt that it is this particular variety of Centifolia. It's 14 or 15 years old, grafted, and was moved once about 10 years ago because it was getting too much shade when buds form. It's clean and healthy and 3 to 4 feet tall.

Glad you were able to include your zone info on your user name! Assuming VA means Virginia, I hope someone from there who grows the Cabbage Rose responds - I can't grow it, so have no suggestions.

Yes, VA is Virginia, and I have refined by zone to 7A, I see the coldest temperature for 7A is 0, but in a cold winter we can have sub-zero nights. The coldest temperature I remember at my house was -12 and we had two feet of snow on the ground. For two or three days, the high did not exceed 10 degrees. Very unusual for us, but extremes do happen. This was about 20-22 years ago before I had roses, but I had peacocks then and keeping them warm and fed was quite a task.
