How much storage do you need? Room looks like it has a closet. Are you hoping to store your stuff in here too or is storage strictly for guests? You could do 3 drawer chests on each side of bed in lieu of nightstands to give you storage. And then a different dresser across from the bed. Maybe a chair or a luggage rack in the corner. Lamps on nightstands. Art or mirrors behind lamps (if mirrors there, then art over larger dresser). All white bedding would be nice and easy to wash.

I like Gcubed’s idea of all white bedding, because when I think of a guest bedroom I definitely think in terms of making it like a spa/luxury hotel room. Neutral colors work well. But you can also mix it up a bit.

If it were me, I'd get an upholstered headboard. Then a pair of matching nightstands and lamps for either side of the bed. After, I'd get a dresser and a mirror for the wall opposite the bed. What is your budget for the room? The closet is nice but a lot of folks travel with clothes that fold up and need a dresser. IKEA has some inexpensive solutions like the Malm dresser that can be dressed up with hardware. Just a simple 3 drawer dresser should work.

Night stands and lamps, alarm clock, luggage rack and comfortable chair. I outfitted mine with stuff from Homegoods and Amazon.

Don’t put bitty things on the wall: it looks cheap.

If the window faces east, your guest will appreciate a set of drapes to block early morning sun. The bed looks unfinished without a bed skirt. A simple coverlet will give the bed a neater look. Add a piece of art over the bed, remove the LOVE and the other thing (too small), provide a small dresser with several drawers, and at least one nightstand with a lamp, a closet with several empty hangers, a comfortable upholstered chair, an illuminated clock.

Mix up some fun Ikea pieces. The Hemnes collection has some great storage options.

Do leave the "LOVE" but remove the small pictures.

For bedding, choose a reversible spread and a pair of matching pillow shams, preferably in a solid color. A second set in a different color might add color/interest and be useful for guests that like to sit up and read in bed. Usually a queen sized bed spread (with two bottom corners tucked in or pined up) will cover the frame so you don't need a bed skirt for a full bed.

Consider using two white mini shades rather than one wide shade.

For curtains/drapes: One long double rod could hold a set of white sheers and three panels -- one to cover the center window divider and a pair to cover the left and right window frame. Put the sheers on the outer rod initially to give you a finished look while you take some time to choose any curtains/drapes so they'll go well with your bedding.

Optional: Some kind of cedar chest or sturdy foot locker or storage bench for the foot of the bed would enable your guests to have a seat other than on the edge of the bed and enable you to keep bedding for the room in the room.

Suggestion: Are you at all DIY inclined? With galvanized finishing nails and some sanded boards and paint, you could make box shelving to be hung on the wall (perhaps above the bed) to enable you to add an alarm clock and/or radio to the room -- also enabling you to change out any other modest amount of decor you want to add according to the season and/or your guests interests and/or your mood.

Also, with thrift stores now reopening, take some measurements so you know the maximum size you could use and consider making some trips to your nearest Habit for Humanity Restore Stores to see if you can find some good used bedside cabinets. Other charity thrift stores might be worth checking out as well.

I like the idea of two large nightstands with 2-3 drawers on either side of the bed. You don’t need more storage than that for guests. I wouldn’t bother with an added dresser (less is more).
Some musts are: headboard, luggage rack, comfy chair in a corner, large mirror, window covering and lamps for extra lighting. Then you need to add a large wall picture, decorative pillows and a few other decorative items. Good luck.

It is quite amazing what the interior decorating shows on a budget can do on YouTube for $500. You should check them out. The biggest saver seems to be buying all the furniture used from ReStore, Craigslist and the like.

A headboard really isn't needed, especially a budget busting one; however, Habitat for Humanity Restore Stores (or other charity thrift stores) may well have a gently used wood or metal headboard at a reasonable price.

(No fabric headboard, please -- they age poorly, fade, absorb smells ... and buying a used one is just a real nope) .

Alternately, you could add a faux headboard by painting a wide vertical stripe "accent wall" the width of the bed.

You also need to have a table or bench near an outlet for your guests to plug in their cell phones or laptops.

Thanks guys for these great ideas. Yes $500 to $600 wow my budget for this room. So basically I should decide between 2 night stands with drawers and no dresser or small night stands and a small dresser. Will get started. Will also see if I can find anything thrift store and re do it.

If you only have one guest at a time, you really only need one night stand. Or a wall-hung shelf. If you have an Ikea near you, they have very reasonably priced plug-in wall sconces and wall-hung shelves.

Some guidelines for when you shop.

Different communities have different options for selling belongings. Often the thrift stores are the last option and don't have the nicest pieces. You can get good deals on Craigslist, Nextdoor, Facebook marketplace, garage sales and estate sales. In my town we have a weekly publication called The Merchandizer where everyone lists their stuff for sale and a used furniture store that is mainly estate sale furniture.

I love to change my bedding frequently so I tend to purchase less expensive sets. I watch Touch Of Class for sales and get nice quality for a low price.

Prints and posters can be purchased at a low cost - framing is what gets expensive, but I have often bought ugly pictures in a nice frame at a garage sale or thrift store for a couple of dollars and used the frame and glass for an inexpensive print.

You can definitely have a nice guest room with your budget! I like the ideas above esp katininparadise. Your current bedding can mix in with this like she said.

If you are concerned re no dresser, I have a vanity trick if you like: a folding table and chair with a nice tablecloth, a great wall mirror, lamps, and a rolling drawer unit underneath. This "vanity" can also be a desk. Another no-dresser solution is to put drawer units in a closet.

If you decide on a dresser, I definitely recommend second hand. I am a recent convert and it is true they don't make furniture like that anymore. Ikea and others have small night tables, you could also use carts, vintage suitcases, a trunk, or other unconventional options on a budget.

A folded luggage rack in the closet, that can be pulled out should they want to add it to the foot of the bed. Easy access to belonging they choose not to hang up.

When I moved 2 years ago, I started out looking at HomeGoods (and I get great things there) but I found for furniture I got the best quality and value shopping very good (like Church) thrift shops and used furniture stores as well as spending Saturday mornings going to yard sales in good neighborhoods. I found great pieces that worked well and were low priced. I got a good headboard at a great price from Wayfair.

If a bedhead is too much, larger European pillows on the bed would give height and fullnes to the bed dressing

I would find used/old nightstands on craigslist or thrift stores (usually better quality than the new ones unless you spend a lot). Then chalk paint unless I liked them the way they are.
I also agree to above post regarding no upholstered headboard. Take your time and find a used one.
Suggestions about a place to put suitcases is good. A chest at foot of bed is great, then linens and blankets can be stored there as well.

Already in my home, I found two very clean-lined pieces that are very similar in scale and are the same height as my bed. On one side I used a black, 3-drawer dresser with a large piece of art leaning on it. On the other is a nickel and glass desk with a black-framed mirror above it for a vanity. Even though I don’t currently use it, I put a chair there, too, as is shown above because it helps with balance and makes me forget the fact that it is a desk. I then used a pair of matching lamps.

During downsizing, a friend told me of a couple of consignment shops. I could not believe the many high quality of furnishings for such inexpensive prices, so I would add those to places for used furnishings mentioned in your thread. You can easily find higher quality and more substantial pieces for the same or less than you would spend at IKEA or box stores, and those pieces will last you much longer.

Regarding a headboard, I agree with kazzh. I use European pillow shams in the back as they add good height. In front of those I place the pillows to be used at night. Then I add one or two smaller accent pillows. The chair in front of the vanity offered a place for the pillows not used for sleeping.

I would stick to clean lines. I would either do upholstered, DIY, no headboard with Euro shams, reclaimed/rustic wood. Here are some pics, and Houzz has articles on diy headboard. Upholstered ones are much less expensive now too.

Relatively inexpensive square foot lockers can provide storage and could double as a bed side table as well.

If you want a glass top for square footlockers, check the thrift stores -- Habitat for Humanity Restore stores and Good Will usually have round microwave and square glass oven trays in different sizes -- but make sure what you get will sit level and not wobble when set on a flat surface -- unless you're inclined to glue "feet " of some kind to the bottom of it.

A guest room should be welcoming and attractive. This room needs a lot of work.
Window treatments (drapery panels and privacy shades, at least) add texture and color.
If the window faces east, I suggest a room-darkening shade.
Add a bed skirt and a simple bedspread to make the bed look “finished”.
A chair and a luggage rack are conveniences your guest needs.
A nightstand with a lamp adds a little storage and a light for reading.
A dresser with two or three empty drawers for the guest is convenient. Extra bedding can be stored in the other drawers.
A bit of space and six or eight hangers in a closet is nice.
Add a couple of pieces of art on the walls.
The guests may appreciate a place to keep their towels and toiletries if they will share a bathroom with the family members.
