Sofa fabric advice please... we have a new sofa and chairs in a 100% polyester woven fabric that we love; however, with limited use over only a period of under 6 months, the two sofa cushions where I sit are extremely "pilled". These were top of the line "custom" sofas at the furniture store and a good grade fabric. My husband uses another accent chair with different fabric and his chair is just fine. I have had many sofas over 40 years and never has one pilled.

We have no pets and our children are grown ... no one has visited here for several months during this time of covid 19 .. so very little wear other than me. I was told by the manufacturer that friction causes pilling but I am not a large person and only sit to read at night. I bought a battery operated shaver and shaved the pills from one of the cushions. It is starting again and also leaves a cotton batton-like texture. The furniture store has agreed to replace both the sofa and the chairs with a different fabric. They seemed boggled by the pilling and said they have never had any complaints. The other fabrics available for this sofa are from the same manufacturer for the new selection and all are 100% polyester.

Question... Does 100% polyester lend itself to pilling of this extreme nature? Could it be the particular "lot" of fabric that was not "treated" ??? ... I do not want to go through this again with new sofas.
