Counter depth or Integrated?

Loooooooong time lurker, very few time poster here. Before getting sucked into the appliance vortex I’d not put much thought into integrated refrigerators. However, now that I’ve seen them I love them, lol. But is it worth it? My neighborhood doesn’t really support them. Many just have Frigidaire twins. It don’t really have the room for 64in of refrigeration though. Right now I could save lots and get a Bosch counter depth that has a lot of good qualities—interior water, adjustable temp drawer and apparently the only regularly price frig to have two compressors. On the other end, I could get a floor model 36in SZ for about 3500 more. Nothing to sneeze at but a good deal for a SZ.
We’ll have a Jenn air range, Bosch dishwasher and coffee machine, Sharp microwave and Miele CSO.

Thank you in advance!

Following. It is like my alter ego wrote this post. I am visiting the SZ showroom Thursday and will be making the same decision with the same brands.

Lol! Hopefully someone helps us out! Or maybe be we could just talk each other through it. :-)

I have the SZ 36” over/under and I love it. It will be installed with a panel as an integrated fridge, but right now it’s just standing there naked in the midst of the demoed kitchen. No one can tell you if it’s worth it, all we can do is tell you that you’ll love it. My appliances, gosh, even my sink, are upscale for my neighborhood, but I cook a lot, and I bake, and I feel it’s worth it to make my efforts in the kitchen come to fruition.

Every time I open that fridge, the quiet of the motor, the heft of the doors, the thickness of the shelves, the glide of the drawers, the clink of the ice cubes make me feel like I bought the right piece. That said, you could buy three great refrigerators for the price of one outstanding one. The choice is yours. Good luck!

Although I don't have a SubZero (or any upscale appliance for that matter), I agree with your comments, eam44.

If you can afford it and are going to use it on a daily basis, why not purchase what makes you happy.

You say your neighborhood doesn't support it, which I understand. But how long will you be in your house? Is this your forever home? Will you be there only 3-5 years?

If you'll be there forever (or 10+ years) and you can afford the SZ, get it. You will love it. We had the 36" over-under and it was great, although with the ice maker taking up almost an entire drawer, you will want another freezer somewhere in the house (garage or basement). That design may have changed in the last 5 or so years.

If you're only going to be in your house a short while, I would say it's not worth the investment.

You don't have a bad choice. I tend to buy things that make me happy, and would only consider resale if I were going to sell in a few years. That said, an SZ refrigerator has a pretty strong halo effect, making the house seem better cared for, etc. I have had a Bosch refrigerator and was happy with it, but I had it for only three years.

If you can afford it I would get the SZ. We have 2, the 36" french door and the under-counter beverage center. Trust me my husband balked at the price at the time 5 years ago, but he has since come around. The build quality is heads above any other refrigerator. We had a power outage for 4 days and the ice in the SZ didn't even melt in the freezer! That's how well sealed it is. Produce stays fresh for weeks. Plus integrated looks far better than counter depth.
