Outdoor "wall decor"?

Omg, I can't quite believe I'm asking this question since my battle cry is "buy art that makes your heart sing and don't let anyone else decide what that is!" ... however, I find myself looking at this blank expanse of wall and wondering if it "needs" something decorative. It might not, and perhaps I should just go lie down until the thought passes, but it occurs to me that this might be an opportunity to do something that will add interest. As to what that something could be, I'm at a loss, and I need to think of how something could be mounted, as I know DH will balk at the very thought of drilling into the brick. Soooo... have you seen anything cool that might work here or provide inspiration?

FYI, the fountain and furniture stay put.

A few years ago KSWL had a gorgeous hanging outside. I hope she see this.

    Oooh, I hope so too!

Not necessarily any of these, but to give an idea ... I think round stained glass hanging art would be beautiful. It would kind of repeat the birdbath and have such pretty dimension and color.

    Stained Glass

It’s been a few months, but last time we were at The Montgomery Street Antique Mall, I saw a booth with vintage stained glass art.

    Other ideas:

    An outdoor waterproof canvas:

Something Talavera, either the very colorful or blue and white.

A pretty beaded mobile, hanging from a smallish shepherd’s hook ...

I’d most likely hang something in this area between the chair and fountain, in case of any taller plants on the right (or if you put this one on a plant stand, etc).

I know you’ll find the perfect thing, can’t wait to see. :)

PS: We have a big metal crab we got from First Monday years ago. I wanted something fun. :D

IIRC, K had an advertising banner from an art exhibition. It was very charming. I'm not sure where she purchased it but this site has similar items.

You are very creative Ida so why not do a collage? You can make them waterproof.

    See here...

If you google collage you will get lots of inspiration.

Hmmm, my outdoor wall decor is fairly minimal, but I love this sun I bought online somewhere. I’ve hung it on the wall behind our porch swing on our Front Portal.

Or how about a ristra, or do they have them there in Texas?

I have this on another wall. They come in all sizes and colors:

Just some ideas, although they may be too Spanish-themed for your home. Perhaps a skull?

For years I had an outdoor clock, and thermometer (both verdigris copper).

    Tiki torch fuel wall sconce?

    You don't really need anything.

I bought an indoor/outdoor barn quilt for my fp mantel, and I love it. Our neighbors who farm have a humongous one on their barn, the wife made it herself, and it's stunning. You can buy all sizes for outdoors. Google outdoor barn quilt. Here's mine, but not on my mantel. It's 26" x 26".

I have two pieces of stained glass and I want to put them outdoors, but they need light to go through them for effect. I have no idea how to hang one to keep the wind from blowing it. :(

And then there’s this. Outdoor cat decor. 😄

What KSWL had, and I loved, were, IIRC, museum standards (you know the flags/banners museums hang to advertise exhibits, etc.?) I loved the idea but they were never the right aspect ratio for the space where I wanted to use them.

Then, I was at a fundraiser a few years ago, and the event was at a country club where the club house had a large porch. They had huge standards hanging from the porch ceiling between the posts, creating almost another wall and hence an outdoor "room" for cocktails. I suggested they auction them off, they did, and I got Frida Kahlo. Not exactly what i'd envisioned, but for a good cause.

Wow! I love ALL of these ideas and pics! I can see this going a number of different directions, but it's good to have options.

Jinx, wherever did you find that cat?! I was just, like within the past 24 hours, telling DH that I like garden gnomes, and I showed him the cat and he loves it! LOL! It's great!

I'm somewhat intrigued by thought of a banner. Probably more than I'm able to spend since most are in the $400 range. That said, if I had an extra grand just lying around collecting dust, I would definitely buy this hand painted banner. Love it!

Although for our patio, I think I would like something with a more garden like or outdoor feel.

Ristras are so cool, but we only see them here for a short time in the fall. I need to get one this year.

Thanks to all for getting my wheels turning. The state of our country at the moment is breaking my heart, and it's good to be distracted. Maybe that's not a popular view, as many don't have the luxury of distraction, but hopefully ya'll know what I mean. There's a burden over us all.

    I digress.

Oh, I'd definitely put that cat figurine in my house. I love it!

If you google outdoor wall decor there are some great ideas.

    Wayfair has some nice things.

You could always do something like this, and I'm sure Etsy sells similar window frames & you can paint them any color.

I’ve used these IKEA outdoor shelves a few times (not only outdoors). You can buy extra shelves if needed. Or, I have cut the long bits off and wall mounted. Or, after cutting the long bits off you can also stack them. I love these cheap sturdy shelves. If you look online some people painted them fun colors. They can hold appetizers, drinks, pottery and art.

Not sure how you feel about drilling into your brick though.

This isn’t IKEA below but I have seen them stacked like this.

This is what it looks like with the long legs off and mounted.

Posters here have a great memory for design! Our museum banners did come from betterwall.com. We have four, but right now have only one up and it’s inside (Girl With the Pearl Earring). I haven‘t decided what to do with the others. The Renoir was on our former screened porch but on this one there’s no place for it; three sides are screened and the house side is all windows. Same with patio downstairs. The two Constable Banners would be perfect but again...one rock wall, two open sides and the house side is a bank of windows. I may pack them up and send to DS1 in Ft. Lauderdale for his condo. They are pretty site specific, as they’re so large they usually won’t translate easily to another space. That said I don’t regret buying them as they are really cool 😎

Some museums sell their own banners for much less. I think the Getty does, and seems like the museum in Detroit does too. Ive seen some for $100 or less, so if you like them it would be worth doing a bit of research.

Mtn, I LOVE your Kahlo! The beach ball makes it 🤫

Ok, so this is pretty cool, AND it's local to my area. It's a real museum banner... and it's $18.

On the other hand, I just came across some fabric bunting in floral motifs that I bought in the UK. It's more sweet than artsy, but it could be tacked up somewhere on the patio walls.

I think if you did a banner or tapestry, you could hang it from the cord/wire/string and put a fairly tiny nail in the mortar really high up (just the wire, not the banner).

Etsy has a bunch of fabric art. I love prayer flag banners..they could easily be hung with tiny nail or pin in the mortar:

I hear macrame is making a come back:

I was just looking at prayer flags! I love that idea.
