In the spring I have a lovely spongy growth of aromatic stork's bill geraniums and another 'weed' with beautiful little blue flowers. They can be mowed and come back denser through the spring, but by June they are pretty much done. I have a vegetable garden of raised beds and would like to have a succession of sturdy flowering ground covers between them through the fall.

I scoot around on my bum between the beds for weeding, so they need to stand up to some abuse. It would take several days to a week to work through all the beds, so there is recovery time for the plants. It needs to be low growing or stand up to occasional weed whacking if it gets too tall. I don't want anything that requires a lot of water. And things that can grow densely enough to crowd out bindweed and orchard grasses, though I admit that's a big ask, but let's my storks bill and blue flower remain.

I doubt thyme would hold up and I think it would be too aromatic to scoot around on. I love the smell of the geranium, but can't tolerate many floral scents.

I'm in zone 5, summers are dry and hot and very sunny.
