Here are a few steps to get your creativity flowing:

Step #1: Paint the mantel Gray and add a Satin Nickel Fireplace Door.

Step #2: Replace the tile with something like slate and add some Gas Burning Fire Glass

Step #3: Ditch the mantel altogether and take the tile to the ceiling. Replace the Mediterranean style ceiling fan with something striking and contemporary like this Liquid Nickel Artemis.

Can you post a photo of every wall in the room? Based on the photos you have provided, I suggest the following:

1. Remove the painting from above the sofa. It is too small.
2. Replace the rug
3. Replace the ceiling fan
4. Paint the fireplace mantel
5. Remove everything from on top of the mantel
6. Move the tv over the fireplace
7. Remove the bench. It is too small.
8. Replace the curtains.
9. Add a chair to the corner of the rug.

Greatly appreciate your feedback. I do plan to get a gray couch. Changing the color of the fireplace to gray would compliment the couch. We just mounted the TV on the wall last month so I could decorate the fireplace. The ceiling fan must go. Here's pictures of each wall of the room. What software are you using to edit the images?

I love the idea of a pattern chair. Thats possible if I get a couch and not sectional.

I think a grey sofa would look lovely. Do you have a photo of the one you are thinking of?

To edit the images I used Microsoft Paint which can be downloaded free on most PC's.

I really like your use of color in the room, although you say you want to go towards gray. The area rug is fun! And I love the teal chairs at the kitchen pass through. I would suggest two things: A console beneath the tv. It will “anchor” it to the space and provide some storage (if needed). And one comfortable chair (perhaps a swivel?) to the right of that area (where the wall zig sags out). I would look at accessorizing your sectional with colorful pillows in colors drawn from your rug. (Check out www.Dekowepillows.com for some spectacular, colorful, reasonably priced pillow covers!) The ocean image above your sectional is pretty, but hung a bit high. If you want to keep it...you might consider adding a matte and a larger frame around it. I like your use of teal and purple. And the bright yellow in your rug might be fun to play around with. Your room has some good bones. Please don’t go “gray” on us! Following...
