How to save long and stringy pumpkin/squash starters?

Hi there. I don't usually have this issue but I have about 12 pumpkin/squash starters (sowed about 2 weeks ago) and they emerged quickly but are now really long and stringy, several inches in just a few days. They're in a spot with sufficient light but these things have really taken off.

Any tricks or suggestions to salvage these starters?

They've been outside, but either is an option.

I don’t understand why they’re etiolated if they're outdoors and they have sufficient light. Are they very close together? Can you post a photo?

Without further information I’d just suggest planting deeply, up to the first leaves, when you transplant them.
