Container Gardening Clematis Garden

Potted Neva clematis

I potted two Nevas on my deck about 4 years ago, zone 6b. I wanted something pretty to frame our living room windows looking out to the deck, that wouldn't get too big and would thrive potted (big pots). They're protected by a roof overhang, SE exposure. I mulch them with compost. No one can believe a clematis can do well in a pot. Question is, will they continue to thrive?

Not sure about gallon size but it's about 19" deep and 19" in diameter.

Thank you. I am considering trying them in pots. It will be a challenge here in zone 4 but I love to try new things in my containers.

Wow !! It sure looks happy . I don’t see why it can’t be happy for quite some time with topping off the mix and fertilizer etc .. you are obviously doing something right !! It’s beautiful

They're sheltered because of the roof overhang. I don't do anything else to protect them. I amend with earthworm castings and compost.
