Surprisingly Satisfied

With this bed....

Honestly being a gardener, I never thought it was possible.

This is the view from my back door which is used a lot to let the dogs in and out. I’ve previously posted it before, but now the poppies are in full bloom. Each time I open the door I realize my hard work has finally paid off....it makes me happy.

It once was what I considered my blah/ugly bed that needed a change. So I went on a mission...

Some may not find it pleasing...but to me, it is now my favorite bed...And I’m satisfied, finally!

So I’m curious, are you satisfied? Do you have a bed that makes you happy, that you feel that you are ‘done‘ with? If so please share : )

Ooooo. Beautiful. The orange red poppies add the right touch. The purple spires - salvia? I’m partial to deep purple.

Looks great! Especially against the backdrop of the barn in the distance -- the bed frames it beautifully from that angle.

I didn't know "satisfaction" was within a gardener's vocabulary LOL! It's never done, even when it looks good -- can always use some tinkering. I am proud of some areas of the big border project I put in last year. This is one of my favorite areas, I really enjoy the view of the window of this and the area around the corner (windows on three sides of this room):

This pic was taken a bit later in summer so not a whole lot of blooms and does look a bit different this year because I added a tree hydrangea - because I can't stop tinkering...

Little bug thank you. Yes they are ‘may night’ salvia. I’m quite partial to purple myself.

Mxk wow your beds are so lush and full. You sure didn’t waste any time filling them up LOL!

Thanks for sharing and I‘m looking forward to seeing your hydrangea.

I have one main "area" I am settled with. This stuff is just about to bloom, so I have to use an old photo. To the left of the photo is tall Salvia transsylvanica 'Blue Cloud' which is about to bloom is a lighter purple/blue. It is a seeder extraordinaire, so now it gets deadheaded. Also, behind the salvia I added light salmon poppies, and think the color complements perfectly. Maybe I can post later when they are all in bloom this year. The rest is under construction still!

I have been waiting to post this year's photo, and DOGGONE IT! I am no longer satisfied! DAGNABBIT! When I planted the above garden, I also ordered some Amsonia hubrichtii for the opposite side by a small walkway. It was so small. I didn't mind much as I knew it would grow, but it grew more slowly than expected, maybe because the things around it shaded it in its early days. The plan was for the yellow fall amsonia color to highlight the beautyberries right beside them, those sticks in the photo because the beautyberries have been begging me for winter protection, and maybe i'll finally get around to it this year. Every year they fight their way back. This year the amsonia is full and fairly tall, and for the first time I noticed that the ice blue blooms coincide with the nepeta, salvia, and ladies mantle, and are a gorgeous complement. The nepeta is a bit taller, though, and there is one area where my Rose Queen salvias did not come back, maybe due to the trillions of white oak leaves that bury them each fall. I'm thinking of moving an amsonia to that spot, shifting things to make the blooms more noticeable. Last year we had a warm fall, and our first killing frost took out the beautyberries before they'd even turned pink. They deep froze on the branches. So much for planning.

(Auto-correct always changes amsonia to ammonia, which is annoying.)
