Cork in the same colour range as the damaged linoleum. A cork floating floor in the granulated cork look will get lighter over time. The rich oranges you normally see in cork will fade down to a fantastic 'bleach bottle blonde' colour (Gwen Stefan or Marilyn Monroe hair colour).

Tell us your ideas for the kitchen...the small amount of counter top I'm seeing appears to be in rough shape.

I have no clue where the cork idea came from. I would however suggest you deal with the lighting before making any choices and that kitchen needs some serious work . I have a MCM ranch and we redid the entire house to work with how we live . We kept the windows, the huge fireplace but we actually switched the the kitchen for the DR and kept the rest of the layout just new drywall and doors . IMO you can keep the essense of the style but just bring it into this century. I think marmoleum is a great choice in that space but i would like to know what the rest of the flooring is. BTW we had that exact flooring in the kitchen of the house when we bought it. This is a pic of our LR and reworked kitchen. We actually put laminate that looks like slate all through the main floor living spaces since we have huge dogs .

I love these style of homes and I think it would be such a great project to take on. I have a 1980's ranch, and while I did not want a ranch, initially, I think it's interesting trying to find continuity. I don't mean to highjack the post, but like Taryn, I am trying to find flooring. I have white oak in the house, except old tile in the kitchen, which I was going to replace with Marmoleum. These tips and ideas are great! The kitchen does need a lot of work. The fluorescent lighting is atrocious, and the entire house had awful white carpet that I tore out to reveal nice oak. We’re replacing the appliances and pulling out the shelving above the counter. I kind of love the avocado Formica counters but they’re damaged in a couple spots so will need to be replaced soon. Flooring is tough because the fireplace is in the dining room! I’d love terrazzo or stone, but those aren’t in the budget (and might look a little over-the-top for the modest house). While I love the look of cork, I don’t think it’s tough enough to withstand kids and pets and liquids in a high-traffic kitchen/dining area. I’m leaning toward a retro vinyl print I found that is about as close to the terrazzo-print Lino we have now
