If you’re concerned about resale value, the location of a soap dispenser will hardly be the issue. The double bowl sink will be.

If you look through threads with our resident sink/counter fabricator expert, Joseph Corlett, you’ll see he makes a nice living replacing double bowl sinks, with large single basin sinks. It’s the most frequent request he gets. Why? Because large, single bowl sinks are way more functional for cleaning large items...baking sheets, roasters, etc.

Had to check...My sink is a 30" single with the faucet centered and soap dispenser 8" to the right. I love a large single sink and will never go back to a double. Having said that, I don't think the placement of the soap dispenser will be a factor at all.

Thank you both @darbuka and @Lala. I hadn't even paid attention to the bowl as it came with the builders plan but I have gone back to ask them to substitute for a large single basin.

Nicoletta...the builder may say a single basin sink is an upgrade, but don’t let that dissuade you. For a little more, you’ll have a far more functional space for prep, and cleanup.

The sink depends on how you cook. I have a double sink but with a small side for the disposal, and a low wall to separate them, so big pans are still easy. I would hate one open sink. So get what works for you. For the soap, one soap dispenser on the countertop isn't really that different than the builtin kind, and permanently changes your countertop. It won't be a deal breaker for someone buying your home, but right handed and left-handed people might not like the position, and I think. it would be a pita to fill up all the time.

I wish I didn't even have the soap dispenser, it's just clutter on the countertop to me. And it's one more thing to clean around.

I have a very simple stainless soap dispenser sitting on my counter no hole needed and if i really want an empty counter I out it under the sink. I have seem way too many built in soap dispensers fail.

Nearly all my customers want the soap dispenser 8" on center from the faucet, which provides plenty of handle clearance.

Soap trapped under freestanding dispensers will damage granite and can destroy engineered stone.

I love the soap dispenser and it is about 8” to the right of the faucet. And it is easy to refill.

FWIW I like the double bowl sinks. My old sink was a 60/40 and 11” deep and very convenient and useful for us. That said, we just redid our kitchen and installed a 30” “workstation” single bowl sink—I love the workstation features but wish I had a double bowl version (but not sure if they make one). I installed the single bowl because it seemed so popular on Houzz, but now that I have it I am not such a fan of it.

I like my large stainless double bowl sink. Left side is for clean dishes....I wash as I go, drain, and cover with a clean towel. The right side is my “dirty” side, with disposal, handy to built in soap dispenser for washing hands, etc., and closest to the dishwasher. It all depends in how you roll.

I overflowed the under counter soap dispenser too many times, and yes it's one more thing to clean around. When I replaced counter and sink I opted for a Simplehuman touchless ss dispenser in the polished finish, brushed available. Some have had problems with these, but it works well for me.
