Nope, not as you have it now. Remove all the kid stuff and the rug, and take new photos from all angles. Could be a nice space, but we need to see more.

Do you have three rugs on this floor? The patterned rug and the two that look like carpet?

An ottoman is a great choice for coffee table with children. Also fashionable,

It’s one rug and then carpet yes. The other carpet besides the rug is the same

I realize that is probably so children can play on carpet. If you want a grey rug with pattern, something like this may work better with the other carpet.

But I think it would be better to see pics of whole space, all walls, to see if there is a better layout for your furniture.

Thank you for the responses. I’ll get some more photos up. For now the rug can go back

Regardless of whether or not it goes, it's dull and should "go".

The carpet is beige toned, so I don't think a gray background rug will go. Something with an off-white/beige base if you are staying super neutral (but then, that's your carpet already) or something with more color. Purpose of the rug on top of carpet? Is it to define that space as a conversation area?

I would try the rug (any rug) the other way and centered in room. When you add a coffee table it will pull it all together and be a nice layered look. Suggest not as geometric, having more texture/interest and one that relates better to the carpet. You could then change art and cushions to compliment and creating a cohesive look.

Not a Pro.

Look for an area rug with a small amount of the carpet color in it.

On another note, I am not so sure you need an area rug. Once you put in a cocktail table, throw pillows and drapes, it may not be needed.

Not sure how an area rug benefits your room. You don't have to have color, but if you are looking for some accents you could consider a colorful ottoman or lamp, even window coverings.

I don‘t care for the rug-on-a-rug look.

It gives the room a chopped off look and the pattern is demanding you look at it. To create the right balance you need a whole rug that doesn't dissect the room or a small 5 x 7 calm one to place only in front of the sofa with an ottoman or coffee table.
