Forgot to mention that I will be having it installed flush (not proud)

This pic shows how our Sharp is mounted—the panel is easy to reach the way our mw is mounted. The counter top has a 1.5” overhang from the cabinet frame, but the mw is not flush with the frame. The mw protrudes about an inch from the frame.

My Sharp MD sticks out 1/2 inch from the cabinets. The counter overhang is 1".

ETA: I believe our KD ordered a kit that would recess the MD a little further into the cabinet, which is why ours juts out only 1/2 inch.

Isn't the tilt out supposed to help by not having to design the overhang precisely?

@megs1030 @J Inhof is there a reason why your MD wasn't installed flush? Are there pros/cons that I should be considering?

I had seen this post (from last year): https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5739212/photo-of-sharp-microwave-drawer-with-deflector-vent-installed and I'm wondering if I will run into the same problem with ours if we use the flush mount kit. However, I do plan having the cabinet trim/framing around the MD (similar to @J Inhof's so that it will sit a few inches lower)

CD, I don’t know exactly why mine isn’t flush but I can ask my contractor this week.

The Sharp microwave is in our lower level kitchen and I wasn’t overly concerned about its installation at the time. I’ll see what I can find out.

Not sure why mine isn't flush, TBH. But in any picture I look at online, they all look like mine. I think that's as flush as they get.

As mentioned above, make sure to read the appliance installation instruction which include clearances from panel to counter above and suggested max overhang. Provide this diagram to the countertop fabricator.

Did you make sure that front edge of the the shelf that supports the appliance is 1-3/4" from the front of the cabinet as described in the Flush Installation Instructions? There must also be 23-1/2" between the front and back of the cabinet to accommodate the 23"-deep appliance.

Jeffry, we are in the process of having the island built and there are no instructions regarding the clearance for the tip out if we have an overhang of more than 1”. the inst dondon’t really tell us how far down to put the shelf to accommodate a longer overhang

We ended up with a 1/2” overhang

Sharp shows to make the gap bigger (see page 3 of install manual).

They use 16-3/8 total from bottom of counter edge to bottom of micro opening for a standard overhang. I would add at least 5/8" to get a 1" gap and use 17". You may want to get the micro draw onsite, measure and determine preferences.

The diagram above is for a standard installation. For a flush installation, you would have to position the oven even lower because the control panel will be further back in the opening. Perhaps a standard installation would be a better choice if you have a large overhang.
