Decorating this Dilemma

Hi! Need to update this TV and surround. I know ideally we would get rid of the black granite surround, get a new tv and add stone or tile and a pretty mantle. The reality is that this isn’t our forever home yet would like it to look more updated and inviting once we do decide to sell. Don’t want to spend much money. I’m a do it herselfer and can make things lol. So with all that in mind... help !! Lol. 😊
The black surround is 66” wide by 47” high.

It does look nice. You may consider drywalling the niche - would allow you or future owner to have a larger TV.

I think it looks very nice as is. I actually like the black granite a lot. For resale I don't think you need to change it.

I think it looks nice. But if you were to fill in the niche and get a bigger TV, be careful that the heat from the fireplace does not void the warranty of the new, bigger TV.

I agree that it looks fine, except for the niche. Fill that in with drywall - you're lucky the plug, etc is already there so you can still mount the tv in the same location. Be sure not to get too large a TV that it overwhelms the firebox.

You could add shutters over the TV.

Maybe just get a quote on removing the granite. Repairing the wall won’t cost a lot or to hide imperfections and to compliment your room, shiplap could be really nice. You could also paint the tv black using specialty paint for metal. You’ll get to enjoy this new addition and will also be a selling feature down the road.

It looks nice! Maybe look into painting the rim of the TV black before you spend money on a new TV. I'd let the new owners decide what to do with the niche. Some may like as it, some may love shiplap, someone else may want to drywall it.
