I recommend Benjamin Moore Pale Oak. This will take the yellow out of the walls and add a neutral wall paint that does not feel overly gray. I would paint both rooms this color.

I am going to be straight forward with you. The kitchen is dark because you have very dark cabinets that take up the majority of the wall space.

You can help, but there isn't a cure without replacing or painting the cabinets.

Adding brighter lights that are are 5000k will add light and remove some of the yellow cast. I am not sure if it is the angle of the photos or if the cans on the ceiling are too close to the walls - you need them to flood the center of the room with light , not be directly over the counters. You have under cabinet light to light the workspace.

Changing the bar stool tops to a light color that is similar to the lightest color in the counter.

Adding some pops of color on the kitchen counter will bring more life to the kitchen. The flooring is so bright and rich in comparison to the counter tops that you really need a few pops of color to balance things.

As for paint color. I don't know how anyone could tell you a paint color without knowing the actual color of the sofa. Is it a light or midtone or dark color, is the gray actually perfectly neutral or is it a blue gray, green gray, violet gray, greige (Green gray with beige) or taupe (Violet gray with beige).

Pale Oak is one of my favorite grays - it is actually a light taupe, but if your room has a lot of yellow tones it doesn't work.

In this discussion Pale Oak was used with creamy trim.

You have actual gold tones, not just creamy - the discourse will be even more notable. Look at the ceiling area where it was not painted. Those are closer to the gold tones I am seeing in your counter.

Thank you for suggestions. We literally just moved in so I’m up for suggestions. Love the dark cabinets and don’t want to change those. Here is a swatch of the couch! It is the top material!

Do you know the color of the current paint color? It seems to be a pale yellow in most of the pictures. If we knew what color that paint is we could understand how much of the yellow we are seeing is due to photography (internet does not always accurately portray colors).

No I do not. All I know is I want the yellow gone!

You cannot choose an exact paint color without buying a few samples and actually painting them on purchased pieces of drywall.

Your walls are clearly yellow. Pale Oak or something very close to it would be beautiful in your space and with your sofa.

Step 2 is to get a few samples of paint color to test.

To see what the color really looks like you may need to put some primer over the yellow paint, but since you are going to paint your going to need to prime anyway.

Paint 2 coats of your sample colors on the watercolor paper. Set it on the counter against the backsplash and see what it looks like. Then set it nest to your sample of sofa fabric - how does it work with the fabric. Then look at it next to your trim and then sitting against the wall next to your flooring. This will need to work with all these different surfaces and colors.

Seeing your space the first color I would try is SW Creamy. It has a hint of yellow, but not anything like what you have. If you go too gray it will fight with the gold in the counters, if you go too yellow it screams yellow. The goal is to find that perfect balance of gray and yellow.

There is no way to know exactly how each will look in your space - as I said, computers are not a really good way to see colors, but given this is the only way we have to share here is what I am seeing.

Just input the color you are searching for (PALE OAK) and then search the brand you want (Sherwin Williams). It will give you the closest color match.

Thank you everyone! Very helpful! I’m loving the off white colors people are using these days. So fresh and clean. Just don’t want It too look too sterile. I wanted to paint the kitchen spare white by Sherwin and then paint the great room a very pale greige but not sure that will work since my floor plan is open. I have this area (see pic) where there wouldn’t be a clean line of disconnect.

This is one room. I highly recommend painting it all one color. Choose a color from your granite. It can be the lighter tone of Pale Oak, or you can go a little darker and and choose a darker greige. You have a lot of natural light in your room, but with the dark cabinets and the orange floor, I would not go too dark.

Since you are looking for SW and want to go a little darker, I recommend SW Kilim Beige. It would look great with your counters and it looks fantastic with wood with redder tones (your flooring).

A 3rd choice would be to find a paint that matches your backsplash.

So, buy some dry wall boards (you can keep them and use them over and over). Anything smaller is not effective to sample. Paint one Kilim Beige and the other Egret White. Move them around the room at different times of day. From there, you can make a decision if you like the darker or lighter tone and then go from there.

I have a very similar color kitchen and couch - also just ordered the couch so using the swatch for now! I’m working on picking a rug first but it was recommended to me that Edgecomb Grey may work.

Edgecombe Grey is sort of between Pale Oak and Revere Pewter. It certainly would work in this space.
