Tip: when searching for rugs order smallest size first. That way you can see it in your space and light and check it out for color and quality. Much easier to return a 2 x 3 than an 8 x 10. Just make sure you can return at no charge. I still like the rug you have. A polypropylene rug can be cozy. Just need one with a bit more pile height. 👍🏻

Flo Mangan- thank you for the advice, I’m trying to stick with wool rugs (sensitivity to glue uses in rugs, etc). I might keep this rug (50% wool, the other half viscose) once the drapes get here and the room is rearranged. I am curios now how this room would look like with a gray rug (might try it just for fun). What would be your take on wall art? One big artwork or a gallery? The sofa is 89” long. The wall is is on an angle from 1 story to 2 stories high at its highest peak.

You really like the rug so you should keep it. I think the rug looks lovely, and Flo’s suggestions would pull the room together.

One suggestion about artwork you already have hanging: stack the two small pieces on the wall to the left of the window, centering them between the corner of the wall and the window molding. Hang them two inches apart vertically so that the midpoint between them is 58” from the floor. If they aren’t the same size put the larger one on the bottom.

Carolae- these 2 pieces are actually my kids’ artwork that I was going to move or get rid of (I have so many of them around the house), BUT now that you mentioned it I’ll keep them-thank you for bringing that up.

Oh my goodness. If your existing rug is 50% Viscose it won’t stand up to active dogs. You CANNOT spot clean it. So sorry. Either polypropylene or 100% wool. Viscose feels wonderful under foot but you simply cannot clean it without leaving spots. Glad you mentioned that!

Love the mockup Flo posted. The color flows so well, and the higher back chair fits better in the corner. The one problem I see with that plan is the missing ottoman for the blue chair. Might there be a way to make that fit?

This is getting better-I looked at the tag on the rug while rolling it up and it’s 100 % viscose (the web site shower 50/50 in product description).

not too much blue at all. to me, the rug is pretty traditional feeling but can lean transitional

That rug is transitional because it has more random pattern so it helps bring your pieces together. When mixing patterns as long as they are different scales it usually works. I do like the chair change. You can use the ottoman and add another bunching table if you want. Or a small round coffee table. Looking good. You just have to try rugs in your space to make sure everything works together.

Mpal13-thanks. 17 x 23 is a huge room. You definitely need a 9 x 12. Can we see other two walls please. A sketch of the space would help too. Doesn’t have to be to scale, I can do a scale drawing for you but need to know where openings to room are and widths of openings. That helps me see the traffic flow through the room. Thanks.

Ok. That helps. So you have a walk through room which needs to be considered. The first thing I see is you can pull blue chair forward so it’s arm comes close to arm of sofa and do same with wing back chair. I think A 9 x 12 rug is ok. Your room doesn’t look 17’ wide? But might be.
So please verify that measurement.
