What to do with an extra bedroom?

I moved into a 3 bedroom house a year back, as a solo female. Originally I had myself set up in the master, an office in one of the extra bedrooms, and the this bedroom was a music room where I kept my piano. I also have a small loft area which is my reading nook where I have bookcases and a chair. I've now moved my piano downstairs and the third bedroom is open.

Should I make it into a guest bedroom? I don't ever have guests and family always stays with my parents because they have more room and live in the same city. Friends who travel here generally want to stay in hotels since I live in Vegas. The other idea I had was to turn that room into a reading nook, then do something else with my loft.

I'll attach pictures in the comments.

Own or rent? If rent maybe just ignore it and at some point you will move again. If you own it is logical to set it up as guest bedroom but you apparently have all the time in the world. Upgrade your bedroom furniture and move your furniture in there, spend years scouting antique shops for exactly what you want, or ‘shop’ at your parents and they get to go shopping!

What activities would you enjoy doing in that room? Do you need any of the following?

    • art studio
    • crafting / sewing room
    • yoga studio
    • meditation room
    • gym - weight lifting or cardio room

What you do with the room really depends on how you could use the extra space. It's also ok to just have an empty room until you need it for something. In our house we have extra bedroom(s) that function as: office, guest room, weight lifting room, cardio (bike, treadmill) room, library / reading room. This is based on our lifestyle and what types of activities we can enjoy in the space.

What a good problem to have. I can’t imagine you never having guests.

I would set it up as a guest room.

I wouldn't bother making it a guest bedroom. It will just get dusty and be strange, plus cost money to furnish and you might not use it. Just have an air mattress and somewhere to put it if the occasion arises.

Maybe you could set it up as a spa room with a massage chair and foot bath, or take up a hobby like building model trains and do it in there!

Or, if you've ever wanted to collect antique video game consoles that would work too.

Seriously....do you work out? I would turn it into a yoga or exercise room.

We turned an unused bedroom into a workout room and I use it daily. It's been a godsend.

you're asking for advice on what to do w/your spare room?

    Boho plant room?

What else do you like to do ? workout, sew, craft?

do you have more animals besides the dog?

    storage?

    beauty room? lol

do you need a bigger walk in closet?

    media room?

    exercise? or mediation?

    display room for collectibles?

of course don't make it a guest room if no one ever stays over. that would be a waste.

otherwise, it's up to you. you can also just leave it blank for now since you don't need it.

maybe something will change down the road and you'll have a roommate. or a new pet.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Thank you all so much for your advice. The trouble is my main hobby is writing, which I use my office for, and my second favorite hobby is camping and hiking and I store everything downstairs for that! I think for now I'm going to leave it as is and just see what happens. Maybe I'll pick up a new hobby in a year or figure out another use for it in the future!
