Unknown type lemon sapling, pot, 3 YO, Double trunk.

Beginner gardner/citrus enthusiast from Europe here. Adopted this little guy from a plant sale. Had two trunk branches right at the base from the beginning, is this going to be an issue in the future/what to do?

Thanks for any comments or advice :)))

i like your pot in pot system .. good start there ..

most trees prefer a sip of water .. and then near drying before being watered again ..

and just by looking at your media... im am wondering if it is tree friendly ...

when it is time to repot.. i bet you can do better ...

as to 2 trunks ... the tree seems rather happy ... so i am wondering if there is anything to fix??? .. i tend to avoid fixing things that arent really a problem ...

growing tree indoors is not easy ... do you plan to keep this as a houseplant??? .. any chance it could go outside for summer??? [if it does.. it can not go in direct sun]

Looks like a rooted cutting. So you have two choices:

    1) grow as a bush and encourage all growth. In other words -- leave it as it is,

    or

    2) Train it as a limbed-up standard (tree-form) with a single vertical trunk.

It's your preference really. But the standard form will take training - in your plant's case, over years. You'd basically eliminate one branch and train the other slowly over time to a vertical stake. Tie it snugly and adjust the tension on the ties throughout the growing season to get the branch to attain a near-vertical posture. This may take two seasons. Of course this will set the plant back quite a bit.

I am not sure of the full context of the word ""Sip"" as used above when it comes to watering a citrus tree. However, when you water a tree, water the tree well until water drains out the bottom of the container. Then don't water again until the top couple inches of the medium feels dry. Watering by sips does not give the tree its needed water supply, and also builds up the salt content in the root zone.

    Thanks for the great advice!

1.) Watering by moisture meter (ie when dry, water until draining)

2.) Will continue "lemon bush" plan and not interfere with branching

3.) The media is too alkaline (figured it out post poting) and will change it for an acidic soil after re-poting in near future

4.) I currently have no outdoor option available, so the plan is to grow it as an indoor lemon tree for the next couple of years and later on plant it in a greenhouse when i have access to a garden.

Thanks again and all the best!

It looks like your tree is grafted onto rootstock. The thicker upright trunk is the grafted portion, and the side shoot looks to have grown off the root stock. If this is true you will have two different types of fruit.
