Spa (Quickly) pumping into pool!

We had our pool cleaning company come yesterday to clean our pool. It usually doesn’t look super clean when they are done, but usually Ok. This time the clean was GREAT sparkling no debris at all at the bottom BUT the spa jets are quickly pumping water into the pool. I tested it and put the hose in the spa. Spa stayed same level and pool got higher. With water pumping quickly out of holes in spa (but spa level staying the same). They left it in service mode (that happens sometimes) and I clicked it back to auto as I have done before, but it seems like I need to click a valve back that was set when cleaning yesterday. Help please!

One of the valves between pool/spa mode is not set correctly. I will take a guess the spa suction is open, dumping the spa and not getting replenished.

Call the service company to make the correction. It's their mistake and responsibility.

Stax, We have controls in the home and outside that we can turn on clean mode or spa mode, so we typically don’t adjust any valves when we use the spa. The pool levels stay where they are typically and the hot tub warms up at a certain time of day and then Switches to clean mode on a timer (or manually from the control pad). Mystic Pools, that sounds right! Is that something a lay person can do or should I wait for the professionals? (in all frankness, these guys are not very responsive. I‘be tried to reach them for a few days now with no luck. They were already a little upset because I asked if they were coming this week to clean-they replied tersely “the GPS said we were there for 20 minutes yesterday, so it was cleaned.” Um...no. I replied with pics of a obviously dirty pool. They didn’t answer but sent someone else out to clean eventually. They are not the easiest to work with. It’s likely time to shop around for another company.

I'm not sure of the automated system you have, we install Jandy RS systems. In AUTO, for a pool/spa combo during normal operation, water is drawn from the surface skimmer and or drains in the pool, and returned to both the pool and the spa. In SPA mode, the valve actuators will turn on both the suction side and the return side and isolate the spa from the pool.

I suspect the service crew opened the spa suction and never returned it to it's proper position for normal operation. So now water is being drawn from the pool and the spa simultaneously. The return to the spa is not enough to keep up with the water being drawn from it.

If you can determine which line on the front part of the pump is the spa suction, the valve should be in a position that doesn't allow water to flow through. There is a toggle switch that moves the valve to 2 different positions. Spa mode and pool mode.

If you post a pic of the pool equipment, it would be easier to identify.

I would shop for a new service company. And, they should be responsible for this issue. You did not have this issue before they arrived, but upon their departure, you do now.

Thank you so much, Mystic Pools. I emailed the company and asked them to call me so maybe they can just walk me through what needs to be done. That was yesterday. We have 2 boys with autism who use the pool/spa a lot so I was going to try and fix it myself (even though I totally agree it’s their responsibility to come back and fix it since it happened during their clean!) I don’t want to do something I shouldn’t, but if it is a simple fix I would love to get it up and running again for our boys. :-/ I’m not sure how many pics they’ll allow me to attach but I’ll give it a go! (It looks like it has rotated every pic to the right one “tilt”. Sorry!)

    OK.

The 4th pic of the pump. The valve handle is in line with the pipe that goes into the pump. Right now, it's drawing water from the pool and the spa. That's causing the spa to dump. It'll be trial and error but, there's a toggle switch either under the valve or at the end of the valve. It has 3 positions. In the center it's off. Left or right toggling will close suction to one of those pipes.

It's a 50-50. If you flip the toggle, watch if the water in the spa goes down or if it fills. You can check your surface skimmers prior to trying the toggle. If the skimming actions stops on the first try, flip the switch exactly opposite to re-start skimming action. The spa should slowly begin to fill.

I'm not sure about the return side. There is water going to the spa based on your first photos so it's probably correct. I'll bet the service guys messed with the suction when vacuuming and never re-set it.

    Post your results.

I went out there and looked around but I‘m not totally sure what is what-you’re right that it is the Pool company’s responsibility to fix so I’m going to keep trying to get them out here. I emailed again this morning (I‘ve emailed and called a few times) And shared the advice you gave me about what it sounded like the problem was and was told someone would be out this morning. Not surprisingly, nobody showed. Our regular day for cleaning is tomorrow so maybe they’ll come back then-but in the meantime, I’m feeling out other pool companies. Thank You for the help! I’ll update when I get some kind of resolution here.

To update-They came out Tuesday for our regular clean and they adjusted the switch and fixed the issue. I wasn't here when they came by so I didn't see what they did, but my guess is they moved that swithc you were talking about. Thanks for your help!
