sink width and base cabinet width.

I have a base cabinet with. 31.5 inch opening for a sink. (33 inch wide cabinet, 3/4 plywood each side.

Manufactures manual says install in a minimum 36 inch base cabinet because of clips on the side of the sink.

Would I be able to install a 31.5 inch sink in my 33 inch base cabinet? The side lips of the sink would rest on the actual cabinet sides which I think provides more support than clips.

Or do I need to follow manufactures installation? I’ve attached a pic of the manual. What I’m hoping I can do is move the 4 clips circled in blue to the top and bottom 4 clips on top and 4 on the bottom, instead of 3, 3, 2, 2. I have a base cabinet with. 31.5 inch opening for a sink.
