Don't put fake wood anything next to real wood. It will look awful.

If they are real wood, they can be refinished and re-stained. After that’s done to your liking then you can pick out the other flooring. Good luck.

What about considering a hex tile for your floors and doing a transition into the wood?

I too have been warned not to put real wood by wood tile. There are so many tile options that you are sure to find something else good! First, you might consider something that has a dark brown speck or line in it so that the dark hardwood doesn’t look stark next to the tile. I would also look for a long rectangular tile, not small squares, to balance the shapes. Finally, can you plan to install so that the longest edge of your tile is parallel to the long edge of the hardwood?

I recommend Porcelanosa's Thassos tile. It is a subtle marble look. I've not found anyone who beats Porcelanosa for white tile. They use white clay from Turkey that produces fabulous results. This pattern would complement your dark floors well.

You can look at 'vein cut' travertine-look porcelain tiles. They come in EVERY colour in the rainbow (yep...even purple). If you like the look of pale wood you can find travertine-look tiles in the same colour range but WITHOUT the fashion faux pas of real next to fake.
