Is it ok to replace 6" rigid duct with 6" flex?

My 6" rigid duct system has a lot of issues with rust and holes, and old insulation falling apart on it. I've been told to just replace it with 6" flex, instead of repairing and buying new insulation.

Would this be ok, or is there a reason not to do that? I believe that airflow is best in a rigid duct, but is it enough to worry about here? System is 2.5T, and ducting is in a crawlspace.

Thanks for any input.
