What water would you choose?

Hello all,

We recently had a water softener installed. I realise now that this water is not ideal for our vegetable garden or for our house plants.

But our town tap water is also pretty horrible: it has a hardness of about 35 to 40 french degrees, which is 350 to 400 ppm or 20.50 to 23.50 grains per gallon. Which is extremely hard.

In your experience, out of these two, what is the best water to use on the vegetable garden? And on the house plants? This is probably a case of the "lesser of two evils", but maybe one is way better than the other?

(Please don't mention rain water, that would be ideal, and I'd love to do that some day, but I'm not quite there yet. I need a solution for now.)

Thank you,

Paul
