My Dark Shadows (about 4-5 years old) gets only 1, maybe 2 hours of actual sun a day and looks like what you see below in pic #1. Are you familiar with its smaller "cousin", Golden Meadows? (seen in pic #2 below)

Thanks for the help. I love the coloring in yours. I think I will put it in the bright shade spot. Dark Shadows is one of my favorites. I'm excited to see what a few years will bring. I also have golden meadows. Mine gets a lot of sun and looks quite different. I am still waiting for it to grow up a bit.

Lots of high contrast variegated Hosta out there. (Ben Vernooij, First Frost, Blue Ivory . . . ) To me, Dark Shadows' appeal is in the more subtle green on blue/green and the yellow edge in early spring is a cool bonus. Mine lives in mostly shade and suffered next to a burning bush (roots) which is now gone, but its still in mostly shade.

and Robin Hood makes a cool reverse - complete with the early season yellow.

Photos taken at different times of day, this one does not really get much bright sun 10:30 to noonish. It sits under two trees, and there are two sheds that sit East and west sides of the garden bed. This is an easy plant to keep. This year it has a bit of cold damage to the tips.

That is a wonderful example of how this plant can, and should look. Beautiful!!

That's a beauty, frogged and what I'm hoping my plant becomes now that I've gotten rid of the burning bush.
