What does this mean on art work?

I was given this framed piece of art. It is in bad shape...especially the frame and matting.

I at first thought it an original water color, then thought it just a print. A very old print. Now I am not sure.

After seeing a photo that I took of the signature, for this forum, I noticed a copyright that does not show up to the naked eye...at least not my eyes. :) It says 1905. What does it indicate about this artwork?

It appears to me it says copyright 1905 and the artist's name is Geo. (George)

Howell Gay. Can't make out the publisher? below the copyright.
