Propagating Cholla Cactus

I have a growing cholla cactus that is growing out into a walking path. So I am going to sever off two of the major limbs. Is it correct that these can be easily rooted? I should just cover the severed end in rooting hormone, then plant in gritty mix and leave it in the shade while it roots? How often would you water a rooting plant like that?

On a related issue, the thorns on a cholla are the worst I have ever encountered. They have barbs and removing one from your skin is sometimes not trivial and does damage on the way out. What is the best way to wrap one of these up so you can safely move it around?

What is a typical selling price for a rooted cholla cutting that is about four feet long (i.e., a major plant section, not just a six inch high stem)?
