cocos palm maybe

Hi Dave thanks for responding! I found it in the garden sction at a local Walmart in Maryland...I was thinking Kentia Palm also but then also thought Cat Palm or Majesty Palm...what kinda of care would you suggest?

Wouldn’t a Cocos have the large nut still attached and visible?

Cocos is another (common) name for Syagrus romanzoffiana, Queen Palm. I don't think it's that. Howea is a good possibility but many other palms also look like that when young.

That's not a Syagrus (Queen). And it's certainly not a Cocos (Coconut). Foliage does not look right for a Majesty (Ravenea). If it's Howea, consider yourself very lucky as they can be hard to find and pricey. Howea can also be quite tolerant of a dry house environment. There's a remote chance it could be Dypsis lutescens, but normally the trunk is more golden on those. Could also be Chamaedorea cataractarum as they look a lot like Dypsis, but with green trunks.

Bright light to a sunny window. Outdoors in summer (depending on where you live) would be a big help, but not necessary (if it's Howea). Wipe down leaves regularly in winter to keep mites off.

Dypsis lutescens can be quite variable with some forms having golden trunks, some green and some more brownish. Most commonly sold is the golden form, people go for the colour.

Generally a palm like that should be in fast draining soil with slow release fertiliser and kept moist. Strong light and warmth preferred.

@floral_uk z.8/9 SW UK, Cocos plumosa is a synonym of Syagrus romanzoffiana so the name keeps cropping up occasionally.

My my opinion is “cat palm”; I don’t think one is going to find a Howea at a Walmart.
