Wrong paint color..

I wanted more of a navy color for my kitchen cabinets and showed my painter some of my inspiration pics. The cabinets look more cobalt. I am getting the countertops redone white. I am afraid I will have to repaint. Is there Anything else I can do?

What color is it? You didn't choose it?

It looks like a royal blue on my monitor, but it's a nice color. My in-laws have the opposite--royal blue counters and wall paint, with white cabinets. Does it coordinate, or clash, with the rest of the house?

You may find you like the blue better once the white countertops are installed.

Post a photo further out, are the uppers the same?

@itsourcasa, if you click on the image the OP posted you will see the uppers are a very nice white.

It believe it will look nice and crisp once the white coutertops are installed, but it's a matter of personal preference (navy blue versus royal blue). Were you not there to see the paint color prior to painting?

Did you choose a few colors to do sample boards or you just had him pick for you? That is a lot of money for a professional painter to not see samples. I would have done sample boards and then had a sample door painted. Not trying to criticize but too bad you didn't ask for advice before they were painted. I think they look nice but it is disappointing if it wasn't what you wanted.

Possibly they could apply a very dark navy/almost black glaze to take away some of the brightness without totally repainting. Make sure whatever your decision you have sample boards and sample door!!

@eam44 thanks I just did that, I love the two tone look. I'd like to see it from further back.

the top cabinets are white and I am a first time homeowner so foolish mistake I just saw the Pantone swab. I feel really stupid writing that. The Pantone looked more navy than when painted.

No need to feel bad. Paint mistakes happen every minute of the day, even to experienced people. If he is painting over another shade of blue, the prep work will be minimal. Hopefully it will cost a little less.

These things happen! Next time you have a big paint job done you'll know to take a little more control over picking the color.

But for now I would consider thinking about this as a blessing in disguise...reframe your thinking. You didn't get your inspiration photo, which is the same navy and white look MANY people are doing right now. You got something a little different. Cobalt and white is a crisp, refreshing look.

It will look even better if you make it look intentional by using a bit of the same color around the room. Some cobalt towels, a rug with a bit of cobalt, some cobalt blue glass bottles on the windowsill if there is one. Pick another color for an accent...lemon yellow, lime green, coral, orange, or fuchsia?? I think it could look amazing!

I just came across this photo doing a google search for something else, it's a nice combo! What counters did you choose?

Well, maybe that's not the one you wanted, but I think it looks great!

What would really be on trend would be to add a little mixed metal in there with a little brass or copper somewhere.

And I think the dark counters look great, too.

With the white uppers and the white backsplash, white counters would be too much white.

Place some of white paper on your counter and around the lip to see how you'll feel with the blue and white combo.

Don’t beat yourself up. We have all made mistakes and you were excited! Live with it for a while!
