Where do mount an air gap?

My dishwasher is on the left side of the sink. Is there any preferred location of the air gap? Should it be closer to left corner of the sink or directly next to the faucet? Is there any guidance on preferred location to mount the air gap? I will have a water filter on the right side of the sink but no soap dispenser.

Run your dishwasher drain hose over the top of the sink cabinet and forget the air gap.

If inspection requires the air gap, mount it where you'd like a soap dispenser or a disposal button. After you get your CO, remove it, run the dishwasher hose over the sink base cabinet, and install something to plug the hole.
