The real season has begun.

I don't count any of the Stella's or Happy Returns as the start of the season as they have been blooming for weeks in my garden and shopping centers. I can always count on ROGER GROUNDS (in the a.m) to get things started.

In the p.m.

SHAKA ZULU - Which was a surprise. I don't recall it ever starting this early. I did not even see it this morning so this photo is in the evening.

Stella in Yellow- Obviously I need to divide this clump since all of the blooms are on the outer edges. If anyone wants any of it, I will gladly send it to you for the cost of shipping. If not, I will toss the pieces into the woods.

I don't think that I'm as behind in the season as I thought. I think I will have 3 or 4 new ones open tomorrow or the next day. I am noticing not much branching this year. We are also very dry, which in turn drives the deer to my yard. I noticed this morning that they feasted on a few and really liked PINK STRIPES. Of the 10 scapes, they left two or three alone. Good thing it is a bud builder. I was out there this evening spray Repels All on the two beds in my front yard. Always pay attention to the way the wind is blowing when spraying any of these odiferous items.

Exciting isn't it at the start of the season? Happy Returns is usually my first to bloom here too. She's such a little trooper that I almost feel guilty how little credit I give her......I do like your purple Shaka Zulu. Nice to see it blooming for you............Maryl

Congratulations on a lovely start to your season. Repels All is good and stinky. I hope it keeps the deer away. I need to spray tonight, if it isn't raining.

Boy , I feel so badly for all of you who have deer visiting and demoslishing your daylilies . I think here the coyotes keep the deer at bay. Never see them near our place but down the road they are often spotted in farmer's fields.

The season beginning is always exciting, isn't it, David. I like the Shaka Zula. so sorry about the deer and they could have feasted on Stella and left Pink Stripes alone for good ness sakes!

Glad to see your season starting. I will need to spread milorgranite tomorrow along the edge of the beds. With heat expected and the smell of that stuff I can't imagine anything would want to dine. Too dry here too.

Having had deer visit, I know how frustrating that can be! On the bright side it is good to see your season started!

I love Shaka Zulu, but amazing that it is so early for you. Mine has not been blooming too long. Such a good plant. I am sorry about the deer. So far they don't seem to have found my daylilies. Maybe no one told them here that daylilies are tasty, and I hope they keep that secret. Or maybe they appreciate the apples, pear and peaches from the trees more. I see their tracks in the driveway all around the daylilies, but only very occasionally have I noticed a few buds missing, not enough to really attribute to deer.

I do have the Stella's planted out at the points of the this one bed for that purpose, but this year it did not work. I usually have deer activity well before this time, as they eat some of the foliage and nibble on the Stellas and that is my signal to start spraying. Hopefully they won't visit any more.
