Bedroom Decor and Wall Art

Hi everyone! I am in my early 20s looking for some recommendations on artwork above my bed, as well as new throw pillows/suggested pops of color to fit into my room, dresser decor. I’ve recently gotten new furniture, headboard, carpet, bench that are all grey/beige. But my room will not feel complete until I get some final touches in here I’m just not sure where to start. The area above my bed is smaller but there is also a lot of wall space above my lamps so I’m not sure how to best dress this wall up. I don’t like the way the yellow blends with the beige in my room. And I’m also having a hard time finding some decor for this dresser with how big it is, everything looks cluttered when it’s this small.

Any other place that desk can go than behind the bureau? Sure you know it's crowded.

And the second mirror is too many mirrors.

Can you post photos of the entire room plus floor plan measurements with windows, closets, doors.

I'd love to see different curtains, as the grommet ones do not match the furniture style, which is traditional. (Neither does the ceiling fan, but that may be too much to change.)

Looks cramped in the corner with desk/dresser. Can you swap their spots and get rid of the smaller mirror? Would the desk then fit under the window and you can use the upholstered chair as desk chair and get re-locate/sell the office chair? Doesn't look like you need all that furniture in there

Hi Maddie. You're off to a great start. But I do see areas that can be tweaked and improved on. I agree that there is a struggle with the desk placement and dresser placement. Is this a shared college apt where you need a desk in your room? I see a chair peaking out from the corner. What does that side of the room look like? Stand at the window to the right of your bed and take a photo that captures all of the opposite side of the room and then do the same from the left side of your bed so we can get an idea of actual space. Can you measure and draw a floorpan? You have a lot in the room and there may be alternator arrangements that work better. As far s above your bed two or three square art pieces depending on their size would work well. You lamps are a bit on the short side. I see the mustard throw and pillows. Is this a color you want incorporated in the room? I would lose the mirror above the dresser. It dates the space. I am not opposed to a mirror but an interesting one that hangs on the wall would be a more updated feature. Round and framed in the same color as your hardware like a thin black metal framed round mirror for instance. Is you desk also used as a vanity? Is that the reason for the mirror there?

This is my room in my parents house, the desk was a difficult decision because it is my most used space as I work from home and also use it as a vanity, hence the mirror. The desk itself actually stops corners with the dresser, and then I added the drawers in the corner (even though I didn’t like the look of it) because I desperately needed additional storage space. I thought about switching the desk and dresser but felt that the dresser should draw the most attention on the main wall. I do not want to keep the yellow in the room as I don’t like the way it blends with the beige, I’m thinking maybe a darker color I could bring in for a little contrast. I like the idea of the set of pictures above the bed! Here is what the other side of the room looks like

I think your general challenge is having too much furniture for the size and layout restrictions of the room. In reality the bed is on the wrong wall based off the entry point to the room. A better layout would have been this. Using a desk as a double duty piece; bedside tablel and desk, would have allowed more space and a better furniture arrangement.

Besides your mustard throw and pillows you have a totally neutral color scheme which would allow any color to be added. If you want a dark color, consider navy blue

I think you need to give up something. It can't be the bed or desk, so what else could you live without? Can I recommend the Marie Kondo method of folding clothes? It saved me so much room!

I agree you should try to work out something to eliminate all or part of the desk. As to your original question, your headboard is quite high and I don't think you should put anything above it. Instead, I would look for 2 companion pieces of art that are tall and narrow and hang them behind the lamps. Find something you love and pull an accent color from them. Instead of the yellow, how about a dusty rose? These are reasonably priced and you can order just the covers to go over your mustard pillows?

The color is pretty and feminine without being childish.

Consider tall mirrors above the bedside tables if you keep them. The lamps could be chunkier to work with the visual heft of the tables.

I think the headboard is too high to add anything above, but you could purchase four framed prints with soft shades and test them over nightstands per picture below. If you don’t like, you can always return or try them above the bed just in case!

Compliment the softer, more serene colors in the prints for a more relaxing room vs going with bold colors

I really wouldn’t worry about how your dresser is accesorized - be practical and think about needs and storage, etc

Lastly, the room has a lot of furniture but it has to be functional as it’s your bedroom and office. It is still a nice room and even with present layout, you are probably comfortable and it’s meeting your needs.
