Cumaru is nearly identical to ipe in terms of performance and maintenance. It's cheaper, but also has greater color variation.

We have a wood deck in a fairly light color. It gets too hot to walk on in bare feet in the afternoon. Black locust is available around here, but I haven't seen a deck that used it. It's said to last a long time. When we visited the Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown they were using larch for their boardwalks, unfinished. So I have used larch for my recently constructed covered porch floors. Looks nice but it will be a while before I can attest to its longevity. Larch is also called Tamarack in some areas.

@AdvantageLumber. I've been on your website numerous times. I remember seeing about Cumaru. is it a more orange red color?

Cumaru can range in color from a caramel yellow to a reddish orange, compared to ipe's more consistent browns.

@seabornman. I just looked up Tamarack for decking and this is what it said.

Eastern Tamarack is very much the Cypress of the north. Its natural resistance to decay, rot, insect damage and salt makes it an excellent wood for long-life exterior decking. Similar in appearance to Western Red Cedar, it does not age quite as well, tending to look a little shaggy after a few years.

I don't live in the South. I live in the Northeast but the back of my house is Southern exposure.
we don't want any trees on our back property because we want a vegetable garden and plenty of sun in the back of the house, kitchen, family room, dining room in the Winter months that helps save on our heating bills.

because of hard to find wood and the prices had risen during the beginning of the pandemic, we held off on the deck but had our patio installed with the area set aside for the deck to the left.

Now I'm thinking Garapa for the wood deck?
I ordered a few sample pieces and I like it so far
