I can tell you are drunk on mulch. LOL I would be thrilled if I could get a trunk full of mulch these days. Happy weeding! I never finished my first round of weeding.

You are way more energetic than I am! I got a few bales of pine straw last week and have not gotten it spread. Maybe you have given me incentive to do some this afternoon. I have a couple of smaller beds ready for it. It is nice when you don't have to spend so much time on weeding. I have been working on my iris bed, and neglecting the daylilies. But can't really get in the daylily beds anyway without knocking off buds.

There are a few benefits with pots. At least it keeps down the weeds. One of the worst weeds in a bed full of daylilies is sedge. It looks like stiff daylily leaves and if you pull it you only pull the top up and leave bunches of bulbs in the ground to sprout again......Glad you got all that mulch Kay. Gives the cats something to play in-lol............Maryl

Here in the South we talk about kudzu taking over a house overnight. (In almost jest of course!!) But we have so many aggressive weeds that, given a little rain and our hot humid conditions, can almost take over gardens overnight, Mulch is like gold! And yes Maryl that sedge is one of my nemeses!!

I don't have many weeds except the nut sedge. It is terrible. The only way to sort-of get rid of it is to spray it with special nut sedge killer. I tried that 2 years ago. All it did was slow it down. I can't mulch until very late fall when the pine needles fall at my church and a little park nearby and I go collecting them.

I am thrilled, Debra. I normally go through over 200 cubic feet of mulch each year, and I have sorely missed it. I have all but given up on iris, Nancy. the weeding is murder and no mulch since it rots them.

Maryl, I should take a photo so you could see the jungle around my pots...they are waiting to finish growing roots and go into the ground. I rarely leave a plant in the pot unless the ones I buy it from advise me to do so.

Kate, I think one has to move here from a less eager place to appreciate the way things grow here unchecked. Wisteria grows up and into trees all alone the streets, roads, and interstates. After that, Mimosa trees sprout up in any unchecked inch. And the kudzu some genius imported to handle the weeds....everywhere.

Good plants grow nicely (not delphiniums, or lilacs or those sort of beautiful cooler weather plants), but gardenias in abundance, and daylilies seem to love it.

Well Brad, that is a mean weed. but the beauty of it is that is the main one without a lot of 'cousins" is that right?

Kay, thanks for posting the name of Chamberweed. We have that here too but I never knew the name. The bane of my life at this time in the season is Purslane . As soon as the soil is disturbed it takes about 2 days for this darn stuff to show up by the thousands. Early spring it is chickweed and then also right now it is lamb's quarters . UGH. That stuff does not let go easily and one last "weed" is lemon balm . OMG . It is everywhere here . Now there is a plant that doesn't let go .

The things that make a gardener happy :) I can't afford mulch, only a bag for our small central bed with annuals. We do poor man's mulch - mowed grass. I again lost to the weeds this year.

Oh Signet, that Purslane is horrible! By the thousands is not an exaggeration. I will just have to learn to live with it. And I thought oxalis, and burdocks and creeping charlie and nightshade are bad.

People here like to post wonderful things about Purslane. Not me Heather, that Chamberweed is a pain. I like it even less that violets. It does come up fairly well when it is wet, but it spreads like gossip. Nat, the mulch is $2 for a 2 cubic foot bag right now, so not too bad. But my husband is always willing for me to get what ai need, it is just a pain to get it loaded.
