I know this LR doesn't work but I dont know what's wrong. How to fix?

Hi, I'm not sure what in this LR doesn't work. Is it the modern furniture but the country style rug? Is it the yellow chair? Is it the lack of wood? I have no idea. I'm not sure how to fix it because I don't know what's wrong. (I haven't had time yet to get wall art). Any help appreciated. thanks!

Can you show more pictures and include more of the room? Is there an air conditioner in the right window? Can you show the tv wall? From what your picture shows, it seems the furniture is off-balance in the room. You could use a pair of matching chairs and some fluffy pillows on the sofa, that blend with the chairs, to tie the room together better. Add a pretty throw to one end of the sofa.

I like the direction you are going with the room and I think your room just needs a few tweaks, from what I see in the pic. it looks like you have two floor lamps next to each other. move one to the the right of the sofa if you are in front of the sofa, so the floor lamps are kitty cornered from each other. the lamp is too small on the left of the sofa, I might move one of the chairs on the other side of the sofa. definitely need art on the walls, one large piece on the wall behind the sofa and then some additional accent pillows that bring in some yellow. definitely some larger size accent pillows, two at 20x20 for sure and then a couple 18x18.

a few ideas for table lamps, the ones you have are a bit small and a bit too casual IMO, these have a bit more sophistication.

Thank you for all the suggestions!! I added pictures and moved the chair as suggested. Let me know what you think or what more you think. thanks!!

I would move the chair that is on the window wall to the end of the rug angled into the seating grouping. have one of the floor lamps next to it along with the small side table. not sure you need two floor lamps if you have two table lamps. two table lamps plus one floor lamp may be enough. still need some more coordination with pillows and art IMO. it's getting there for sure!!

The colors don’t seem cohesive to me. Can you remove all throw pillows and start over with some that coordinate and pull in colors from the yellow chair and the rug? The patterned lamp shade seems too busy to me.

Your room layout is very similar to one I've got saved. Note the splash of color with the pillows and the wall structure above the sofa.

Also, move the round ottoman next to the yellow chair and I agree that you could angle the other chair on the corner of the rug with a side table and floor lamp.

Start playing with the furniture arrangement. Put one chair on either side of the tv cabinet - or have you tried the couch under the window and the chairs opposite looking towards the windows. Then start getting some accessories in colors that will pull the room together. Get a rug with some color in it.

From your last update (last photo), I would remove the footstool, side table/lamp that's next to the tv, pillows under the tv console and current throw pillows on the couch. Then, add another medium indoor plant under the floor lamp in the corner. Right now the yellow feels out of place so I would get throw pillows that are grey and yellow to better incorporate your chair/accent color. Then, move the yellow throw to the grey chair to help balance the yellow in the room.

    Hope this helps!

Before adding anything, I would remove all of your accessories, reassess items and layout and slowly add only necessary pieces. Rug is fine.

    - Will tall cabinet fit on wall as you enter and then centre your rug, couch, tv - as furniture feels squeezed in at far end

    - place chairs on both sides of tv and ottoman between windows

    - put both plants together in corner near window

    - I would remove sheers and add blinds

    - side tables and/or lamps look too small (See below) and add light coloured cushions to compliment rug and layer with yellow and green shades to tie in the two chairs

    - be sure floor lamp and small table are really necessary and reconsider locations

    - add art over desk to ground

Swap the yellow chair and the taupe chair so the yellow chair is by the windows. The big plant is too big for this space, or might be better in the other corner. It is too big to be where it is.

    Hello Pat,

Are you still in the room? Is your living room 13' by 22' long?

    Marcie

Yes, it's about that long but 15' wide

Hi, here are my latest changes. Would love feedback. thanks

love what you have done, the colors are great and I love the new pillows, it all works great with the yellow accent chair. a few minor tweeks to consider. I might consider moving the round side table next to the yellow chair so the person in that chair has somewhere to set a drink. is there a side table on the left side of the sofa where the plant is? if so the grey accent chair wont need that large of a side table, instead I might consider a cocktail table for that chair something like below. the only other addition I would make is art. need something above sofa and on tv wall.

It looks good! Can you pull the end table that is on the end of the sofa, from the wall some. It looks like it’s sitting back too close to the wall. Pull it forward towards the edge of the sofa.

    Looks fantastic!!

When I cover the very top of the photo so that the tops of your window treatments don't show, I like the effect. Right now, the exposed dark curtain rods are very noticeable. Am curious whether different rods or maybe some type of valance running the entire length of the window wall might neaten up the appearance.

Looks better! Would like to see it with the lights on.
